My ‘Why’…FAB After 50

As you may already know, I am Dr. Theresa Nicassio  a Registered Psychologist (#1541), radio host, magazine columnist, chef, nutrition educator, and mother of two. I feel deeply blessed to still be around after 50 and able to watch my kids growing up, especially given my rocky health journey, when I fiercely fought to not leave my girls motherless before graduating high school.

50+ is better than ever!

Surprising as it may seem, life after 50 is better now than ever. I am thrilled to be able to share what I have learned with you to help you feel more vitality and joy in your life as well.

YUM

In addition to the many other professional, altruistic, and advocacy activities that I am involved in as a psychologist, mum, and concerned citizen, I am also the author of a very special lifestyle coffee table book called YUM: Plant-Based Recipes For A Gluten-Free Diet that has been taking the world by storm. The 2015 Canadian Champion as ‘The Best Diet Book’ in Canada, it went on to bring home a 2016 Gourmand ‘BEST IN THE WORLD’ Award in the same category. The book is turning beliefs about food and our bodies upside-down and inside-out.

ABOUT YUM…

EAT Magazine’s 2016 BEST GIFT PICK, YUM: plant-based recipes for a gluten-free diet makes healthy eating delicious, even if you or your loved ones have allergies or food restrictions. YUM is a perfect gift for anyone desiring to live a healthier, more vibrant or conscious life.

YUM is a masterpiece in several ways” (Sandra Cabot MD). The soulfully written 368-page lifestyle/art book is perhaps the first entirely plant-based book that does not promote veganism or any other special diet. With its one-of-a-kind 10-page Special Diet & Allergy Chart and all recipes easy enough for a twelve-year-old to make, YUM makes navigating multiple dietary needs a breeze.

Kids, teens and adults alike enjoy relishing in the beauty and deliciousness the book has to offer, whether or not they have special dietary needs. However, YUM is a game-changing “must-have” for those who live with food sensitivities, autoimmune challenges, heart disease, cancer, autism, ADD, or diabetes.

“This is not just a cookbook, it is a blueprint for the way forward in all realms. Whether intentional or not, Theresa not only made her debut in the culinary world, she blasted a way for a new way of thinking. In my opinion, YUM’s underlying message and motivation is really about social, political, economic and environmental justice, healing and love.”

MORE ABOUT YUM…

YUM: plant-based recipes for a gluten-free diet has a scope that extends far beyond the typical cookbook in any genre. Centred around “Bio-Individuality,” YUM honours the reality that we each have differing health and lifestyle needs, YUM is not about telling you what you SHOULD eat, but instead is all about sharing with you the magical land of possibilities of what you CAN eat.

KIDS LOVE YUM: All recipes in YUM are easy enough for a 12-year-old to make.

‘Inclusive Cooking’ – Delicious Food Everyone Can Enjoy

While all the recipes in the book are plant-based, wheat & gluten-free, diary-free, egg-free, sugar-free, potato-free, gum-free, MSG-free, margarine-free, etc., this does not mean that you need to be vegetarian, vegan, or anything else for that matter. In fact, it surprises many people that while I do eat mostly plant-based foods, I am not vegan or vegetarian myself! All this is explained about in the book when I share more about my story.

Nicassio’s collection of more than 180 recipes that are plant-based and gluten-free offers help to those who suffer from dietary restrictions.~Kirkus Reviews
However, what is important is my depth of passion for everyone to be able to enjoy food that they love, even if they have dietary preferences or restrictions due to allergies, celiac disease, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, lactose intolerance, etc. that limit the range of typical foods that they can eat.

Special Needs Parenting & Caregiving

I also wanted to create a useful resource for parents and caregivers of anyone who lives with special needs who are seeking ideas for delicious food. Making the recipes all easy enough that a 12-year-old can make them came about as part of my passion to help children learn how to eat real food that comes from the earth, so that they can better care for themselves as they move forward in life.
